A Lot to Be Thankful For at the City of Oneida Community Gardens!

The Community Gardens are closed for the winter after completing a very successful third season.

Our new removable fencing worked well and looked great!  We are grateful that the local Lowe’s and Tractor Supply Company stores donated the materials, and the City of Oneida DPW put it together.  Thanks also to the DPW for installing and removing the fence each year, and for delivering soil and mulch when needed.

All of the gardeners would like to thank Adam Olinski, Assistant Professor of Horticulture at Morrisville State College’s School of Agriculture & Natural Resources, for donating so many wonderful plants again for the 2023 season. Be sure to visit their sale each spring to get a good start on your own gardens!

Thanks to the City Water Department for making sure that water is available for gardeners during the growing season. It’s such an important part of the process.

A special thank you to volunteers Rose and Fred Bavo for turning the water on and off each day for the past three years  - we really appreciate their continuing efforts!

Thank you especially to Mayor Helen Acker for her vision and support in developing the gardens for residents who want to grow some of their own fresh food. It would not have happened without her!

Now is a good time to pore over seed cataloges and select veggies or flowers you want to try in the spring. It’s always fun to grow something new and different that might become your new favorite.  We look forward to seeing some familiar as well as new faces at the gardens in 2024!
