The Oneida City Police Department is comprised of twenty-eight full time sworn police officers. The department's administration includes the Chief of Police, Assistant Police Chief and a Police Lieutenant. Twenty members (fourteen Patrolman, five Police Sergeants, a Police Lieutenant) make up the department's Patrol Division. The Patrol Division works four days on and two days off, eight-hour, work rotation. The Patrol Division covers approximately 22.13 square miles, serving a population of approximately 10,500 citizens of both urban and rural areas. The department had four members assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division (three Investigators and one Sergeant of Investigations) and one member (a Patrolman) assigned as the department's evidence custodian. Lastly, the department is supported with day to day operations by three clerical staff members and one community service officer.
In 2023, the department responded to approximately 10,000 calls for service, including 250 mental health incidents, 600 domestic disputes and 400 traffic accidents. The department made more then 1,000 arrest and issued more than 1200 traffic summons.
The Oneida City Police Department strives to provide the best quality of service to the public. This is done by providing officers with continued professional development, engaging in the Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative and aiming to become an accredited agency through the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services.
